I think all semester obscenity and indecency has really played a big part of the course the entire semester, maybe not so bluntly but whenever mentioning the course to someone I am talking to, they always think that the course has obscene material in it that we have to watch or somehow sample? Yeah, you're telling me. Indecent is more like the stuff we talk about. I wouldn't reccomend watching these lectures around anyone even in high school. Speaking of which, when I watched lecture 23 on obscenity, my roomate's 15 year old brother who is visiting from another state walked by and was like what are you watching, with a weird look on his face. I think the SEC's authority to regulate the communal good is a good thing, but I feel that more stuff is allowed now then 40 years ago, or even 10. Growing up I remember hearing words like Bitch and other minor words even being blocked out on the radio. I found it so interesting to hear that in the United States, we actually have a time from 10pm-6am to uncensor indecent material. It is good to learn small bits of every day life on here.

Women who work in porn are empowered because they totally get to call all of the shots.  I can't remember a film that didn't have a man tied down to a bed, in pain while a woman did everything she ever wanted to him.  I mean so what if he is in pain, begging for you to stop, you are the shot caller, and what you say goes.  Even if other men on the set are telling you to stop it, that he can't bare, the rape continues.  When was the last time you saw an uncomfortable woman in a porn? You don't have to take long to answer rarely.  Men actually like this idea that the woman is in control, and he is being totally submissive to her.  They have their buddies come over, have beer, and throw on the porn that has a man being whipped by a dominatrix in leather, and kicked in the balls until he can barely stay with it.

 The fact that someone out there might think that women call all the shots, therefore entitling them with power is so right, congrats to you for making this myth a reality!

I feel that the first blog I usually go to read when I read a classmates blog is hotchics.  I find her titles to be luring, and the content to be very interesting.  Stellar blog, to me.
Another blogger that I like for a sense of rebellion is no naughties. I like the unique name of the blogger, and the way he goes about expressing his feelings about topics.

The last blogger that I liked was casey's blog. I think that while coming across many blogs, some go too far in length without really getting their point across.  I like this blog for the simple reason that the responses are short, sweet and to the point. I check it often.

        I find it very humorous that people think that spongebob is being used to advance the homosexual agenda.  I don't really see where these two tie in together, however I can see some ways in which spongebob is perverse.  I like McQuail's description of media usage.  For the most part, media is the largest part of our lives.  Entertainment to me is the number one reason for watching porn. I mean why else would you watch it? Just because?

        Politics use media to convey their message, and get people to vote.  A good example of this is the way the GOP party pushed the wrongness of homosexuality, and got very strong Christian believers to vote just because they supported their belief.

I agree with part of the lecture that thinking about or wanting to have sex with someone who is 15 or 16 years old is not pedophilia.  However, upon conversation with many people I found that even that age to some will cause people to look at you a little funny.  An 8, 16, and 24 year old are all amongst very different age groups, but i think two people somewhere between the latter of the two, lets say 17 and 19 are allowed to pursue sexual relations.  Even a 16 year old and an 18 year old should not really raise an eyebrow.  Every person is different in terms of maturity, however when you cross the line and want to penetrate someone that cannot make their own choice, then you become a bad person, and deserve a harsh and brutal punishment.

I think Dr. Halaveis’s argument that you are safer in the porn industry than in a high school in Ohio is a good point.  I also think that George Bush and the Republican agenda towards abstinance rather than safe sex is going to only lead to more widespread sex than before. Being a teen not too long ago, I can atest that being told you should not do this made me want to do the opposite. I think that if the government does not teach safe sex and abstinance both to high schoolers, rather than even using condoms they are going to feel invisible and start the next resurgance of HIV/AIDS in America.
Exploitation (ksploi-tshn) n. – an act that exploits or victimizes someone (treats them unfairly). In the case of Tracy Lords, I think she totally pulled a fast one on everyone involved, and it is something she did willingly. At the end of the lecture, I really like the actions of California’s OSHA, in charging a company’s owner $30,000 for not forcing his actors to use condoms. I think in many ways California takes the lead in all new standards, and it is good to see happening.
